Rod Serling/The Twilight Zone

If there's one body of work which changed a medium and the perception of a global audience, it is Rod Serling's best known creation, The Twilight Zone.

In an age when TV networks were scared to tackle issues such as inequality and prejudice, Rod Serling changed characters the networks wouldn't show (in a certain light), to being Martians or robots.

The show can of course be watched purely for entertainment. In fact, it should be. I've enjoyed each episode several times and never ever get bored. Everyone knows certain moments from this show…

‘It’s a cookbook!’

‘That's not fair! There was time now.’

‘There's someone on the wing… Something!’

And there are so many overlooked moments… take a deep dive into this show.

I love to write. It can be writing a new show, or a way to present a new piece of magic, or just writing for fun and Rod is always in the back of my mind. His work was fearless and created with vision. That's what I want. I want that ability and drive.

I don't expect my work to change the lives of my audiences, but if I can present myself with the same sincerity and passion shown by this creator, then I'll know in going in the right direction.

Let me know in the comments, what's your favourite Twilight Zone episode?
