Bruce Springsteen

The Boss.

The very first time I saw Bruce Springsteen live, in Glasgow in 2009, I realised what a true entertainer should be.

It's not just because he plays the songs the crowd want to hear.

It's not just because he plays for, on average, three hours, with no warm-up act and no break.

It's not just because he invites fans to dance with him onstage.

It's because (in my opinion) when Bruce is on that stage, he is singing, dancing and playing guitar for You!

It's what I aim to achieve with every performance. I want each person in the audience to feel like they have a personal connection with me, just for that short period. It doesn't matter who it is, or whether it's a child or an adult, if I can reach them and be their friend and their personal entertainer, that's the goal!

The third time (out of four) that I witnessed Springsteen live, he ended the whole show with a solo, acoustic rendition of Thunder Road. There were fifty-thousand other people in the stadium that night, but in that moment it was just me and the music.

Whatever we do in life, if we can reach people and make them feel something, anything, then we've done well in my opinion.
