Patience
I arrived at Gretna Green last night, after a not insignificant drive, ready to perform for the guests of a nice intimate wedding.
When I got there and introduced myself, the groom told me that they are running a little bit late… 45 minutes late.
There are limits. If I had anything else booked for after the wedding, I would've had to explain the situation to the groom and do what I could to make sure this group still got some entertainment. On this instance though, I had nothing else going on, so I was okay to wait for a while.
The truth is that this is one of the biggest days of these people's lives. Just imagine if I had heard that things were running 45 minutes late and caused a stink.
'I can't hang around all night! I'm not being paid enough for this! Etc.’
That would always have been a part of the memory of this huge occasion for the newly-weds. As it was, the magic went down a storm and they really appreciated my patience. Now, when they think about their wedding day, they'll eventually get to ‘Remember the magician? He was good, and a nice guy too!’
If you can, always be nice, be helpful and be patient!
