Represent!

Even when I'm not at work, I'm at work.

Today I performed at an outdoor event in Lanark. It was a long shift, but of course, it was fun. I shared magic and balloon modelling with local and visiting families.

On my way home I stopped at a supermarket for a few bits and pieces and on my way out, I stopped to wait for a car to cross my path.

I watched it slowly roll by and two little faces appeared at the rear window. Two little girls faces burst into smiles when they saw me, and one of them quite obviously mouthed the words ‘It's the magician!’

As soon as I saw this, I also smiled and waved.

I feel like I'm never off the clock. That's not a complaint, I feel lucky that every now and then, someone will stop me and say ’Didn't you perform magic at my works Christmas party?’, or ‘My kids loved your show!’

I honestly feel like, even though 99% of the time no one knows who I am or what I do, it is still important to maintain at least a certain degree of ‘character’.

I could go on and on about public persona, or even ego, but it boils down to one thing for me, always.

It costs nothing to be nice.
