No Magicians!

Recently, I married the woman I love. We had a great day and everything went perfectly.

Planning it though, was not as straight forward.

We sorted a venue, cake, outfits, speeches, etc but the stumbling block was entertainment.

We were a very small party, so we didn't need a band or a DJ. A caracaturist isn't to everyone's taste, and a singing waiter would have been awkward for such a small party.

We did discuss a magician. I was tempted. It's the perfect entertainment for any size of group. I've worked at weddings with six people, and weddings with three-hundred people.

I eventually decided it wasn't what I wanted at my wedding. I argued my case and my betrothed agreed with me.

You see, my guests might have been thinking β€˜This magician is better than Leigh,’ And I didn't want that. Not because of ego, there are plenty of magicians who are better at it than me (technically) and there are even a few who are as entertaining πŸ˜‰. No one at my event would have mocked me if whoever we picked was bettet with a pack of cards, but I didn't want anyone feeling awkward (as if I was in competition with the other performer), and I didn't want any sympathy if he/she did things I can't. If I had hired someone, I would have wanted them to be the best!

The other side of the coin is that people might have been thinking β€˜This magician isn't as good as Leigh,’ and I didn't want that either. It would mean people would not have enjoyed it as much, or they would be distracted or maybe even feeling guilty. It may also have led to someone saying β€˜You show them a trick, Leigh.’ No thanks. I'm busy enough enjoying our big day.

In the end, we decided to go with a casino. Fabulous Fun Casino, based in Edinburgh came along and it was the perfect entertainment for our event!
