The Price Of Magic

What I'm about to write does not apply only to magicians, it applies to almost all performers and artists.

When you are in there process of hiring a service such as the ones I provide, you might be surprised that I cannot attend your event for fifty quid.

It's easy for people to think that they are paying for someone to come to the party, do a few tricks and go home.

There's a bit more to it than that. You are paying for…

The equipment I use.

The buying and upkeep of cards, balloons, professional puppets and magical paraphernalia.

Travel.

I can perform two miles from my house, or two hundred miles from my house. Either way, I have to get myself and my equipment there.

Time away from home.

I love what I do, but it is a shift, just like most people have at work. If I can stay in bed, or have a day with my family and my dog, I will.

A specific set of skills.

The reason you are hiring me is that I can do things that not many people can do.

Don't get me wrong, none of this is me complaining, but please, just be aware that entertainers and artists don't charge what they do because they can, it's because they have to.

To be honest, every time I have entertained, people have been left with the feeling that it has been money well spent. As long as people are entertained, that's the real payment for me… although I will need actual money too πŸ˜‰
