Fooled Me

When I first got into magic, I wanted to learn everything, including the allied arts. Juggling, stilt-walking, hypnosis, etc. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw the following ad on my local Gumtree page…

‘FREE - Unicycle, juggling clubs and clown shoes. Free to collect, Glasgow. Call 07xxxxxxxxxx’

I was in Glasgow, at The Barrowlands, browsing the great magic shop that used to be there, when I happened to see the ad, and I rushed off to a quiet corner and called the number immediately.

‘Hello,’ said a man's voice.

‘Hi mate,’ I cheerfully replied. 'I saw your post on Gumtree and-’

‘I'm going to stop you there, pal,’ he sighed. ‘ Is this about the clown stuff?’

'Uh, yeah,’ I said

‘I've been getting calls all week about this. My brother-in-law has put that advert up, with my number, as a joke, and people have been phoning about it non-stop! It's driving me mad!’

'…oh right,’

‘Yeah… So I'm going to hang up now,’

‘Okay’

I was disappointed, but I could tell that he was equal parts angry and exhausted with the whole thing… poor guy 😂
