It's Okay To Say No!
Other people. And other people's kids. I used to walk on eggshells and put up with absolutely anything at his, for fear of not being paid, or getting a bad reputation, or coming across as mean. I had cards and tricks stolen or destroyed, I'd been punched by eight year olds and I had put up with those stereotypical βalpha male' comments from people who I now realise, were massively insecure.
This is something else that's changed, drastically. It has changed through experience, and realising my self worth.
Yes, I'm being paid to attend and entertain, but I'm not being paid to take abuse or be a laughing stock. If your child tries to go through my case, they will be told No. If they are shouting out during the show, they will never be picked to help me with the magic. If you're drink brother in law thinks it's okay to take my cards off me, throw them in the air and shout β52 Pick-Up!β he will be the one picking them up.
I'm an entertainer. But I'm a person and as such, I'll stand up for myself and others, and to be honest, when I tell people No, or turn the tables on someone who tries to belittle me, or what I do, I earn so much more respect.
No matter what you do, always stand up for yourself and don't be afraid to say No!
