Not Just Magic
I know many magicians, as well as many people in other fields of work who are 100% devoted to their art or career. This will definitely lead them to the top of the pile, but in my opinion, it is far more rewarding, healthy and to be frank, interesting, to have more than one interest. Don't get me wrong, I never say βMagic is just my job,β because it's not. I truly love entertaining and I love learning and practicing new effects just as much. But I also enjoy other things.
I like to play guitar and I can cope with strumming along to Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan, but I'm far from being βgoodβ, and I'm learning to play keyboard. That is progressing slower than it should be, but that's on me. I love a good book, and I'm a fan of movies, working out and professional wrestling.
Magic is my career. Magic is my passion. But magic does not define me. I'd encourage anyone, in any field, to try new things, experiment and don't pigeonhole yourself. Don't become one-dimensional.
