Wedding Ideas

I have been lucky enough to attend many weddings in a professional capacity and I have seen some pretty creative ideas. Here are just a few…

  • No Wedding Cake - Three tiers, four tiers, five tiers? How about no tiers. I've been to weddings where there was no wedding cake. Instead, there was a huge tower of cupcakes or macarons - less messy and much easier to eat, or a wall of donuts and even (my personal favourite), a huge chocolate fountain with fruit and marshmallows on the side, ready to be smothered in liquid chocolate and eaten.

  • Balloon Models - What a difference a good centerpiece can make, and a professional and attractive balloon sculpture can be an eye-catching alternative, or addition to, flowers.

  • Themed Tables - Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Slytherin and Ravenclaw have been the names of groups of tables at one wedding I attended, each group comprising three or four individual tables, and each group coloured appropriately. Another had tables named after countries around the globe, with tequila on the ‘Mexico’ table, whisky on the ‘Scotland’ table and vodka on ‘Russia’. Something else I saw was tables named for Disney movies, the centerpiece reflecting this idea. There was a lamp in the middle of Aladdin's table and a large, red apple on Snow White’s. Why not see what theme you can come up with, to spice things up for your guests?

  • Man's Best Friend - Yes, I've entertained at a wedding where a dog was part of the wedding party. It was terrific!

  • Fancy Dress - A little bit different, but a fun way to let your guests dress up… really dress up!

  • Kids Entertainment - I have provided this for loads of weddings, but it's still not something that people immediately think of, which considering everything else you have on your mind when planning a wedding, is understandable. While the speeches are taking place or while the room is being turned around, why not let the kids go off to an unused area and they can enjoy a magic and puppet show. Now, if they choose to attack other wedding-goers with their balloon swords and animals, I can take no responsibility 😉

  • No Expense Spared - This is one of the biggest days of your life, and possibly one of the most expensive. Please, please shop around, but also do some research. I pride myself on never having let anyone down as an entertainer, but I know there are many companies or individuals out there who only care about getting paid. If they turn up on the day (and it's a big if), people generally do not enjoy the experience these rogue traders have offered. Whether it's a ‘can't be bothered’ attitude, or just poor service, they don't really care. You see Facebook posts warning you about these types all the time, so do look into potential suppliers. They don't tend to last too long in their profession but while they are in business, they will prey on whomever they can. You don't have to spend top dollar on your wedding day, but just remember, you just might get what you pay for. The cheapest option is not always the best.
