I Didn't Say That!

Last October, I performed at a kids birthday party; a magic and puppet show in a local hall. All was going well and as is often the case, I saved Chester until the end.

He came out and was getting laughs, and suddenly a little boy gasped loudly. I asked if he was okay, and he loudly exclaimed ‘You said the C word!’

I was stunned! In my mind, I was quickly backtracking, trying to think of anything I (or Chester) had said that might have sounded like that word… There was nothing coming to mind, so I said to the young man ‘No, I don't think I did,’ knowing I hadn't, but still worried.

‘You did,’ he said. ‘You said the C word. And so did Chester!’

I looked around, scanning the faces of the parents in attendance. They seemed as confused as me, which I guess was a good sign.

The boy continued. ‘You and the monkey both said… Christmas!’

Oh my goodness! I was so relieved 😂 Chester always thinks the birthday party we are at, is a Christmas party, or an Easter party, etc.

‘You're right,’ I said. ‘Let's carry on with the show.’ And we did just that.

He’s obviously been told at home not to say “the C word” until December 🙄 Anyway, I was glad we got to the bottom of it, and the show ended with no more faux-pas, alleged or otherwise.
