Money Over Morals?

Recently, I received a call. A bit of a strange one.

A lady had provisionally booked an entertainer for her children's birthday party, but she couldn't find the details of who that entertainer was, and she wanted to confirm.

I checked the date and other details she gave me, and couldn't find anything in my diary. But just to be sure, I said β€˜This is what I charge, generally,’ hoping this would be confirmation that it definitely was or wasn't me she had spoken to. I was fairly certain it wasn't, and when I said my price, she confirmed my thoughts.

But what she said next kind of confused me, and to be honest, annoyed me.

This lady told me the price she had been quoted. Okay, it was higher that what I charge. No issue there. But, she mentioned that whoever she had spoken to had told her that he had to charge her almost double because the party was for her twins!

It's not my place to judge, and it's nothing to do with me, really, but I couldn't bite my tongue. I told her it may have been for twins but it was one party. Unless the entertainer is giving out a pretty big prize to the birthday child, and has to provide two of them in this instance, then I really don't see why he would need to charge almost double.

Is it just me? Am I soft? Not 'savvy' enough?

I feel the same when I hear about people charging so much more because they're entertaining kids at a wedding. They're doing the same show, it's just that they hear the word 'wedding' and think 'Cha-ching!’

Personally, I'd rather hear β€˜Thanks, you were great, we would like to book you again,’ and know that I did the right thing.

But again, maybe it's just me πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
